      @timjan Can you log on using your desktop? There would be a limit to OS ability

        @timjan I just use their mobile websites, through Vanadium on GrapheneOS.

        Bank apps work fine on GrapheneOS as long as location services are enabled 24/7. But I'm too cranky to allow that.

          @CStamp Yes, desktop tends to work.

          (There are exceptions: a different bank than the one I was thinking of here, breaks if I attempt to log in via Firefox on Linux. It works to use Chromium based on Linux, or I can use Firefox on Windows)...

            @CStamp

            "Breaks" as in, the site is convinced a hacker tried to break in, so they deprecates my present password and makes me jump through various hoops to create a new password before I can log in from ANY device.

              @timjan

              The apps are checking for a recent Android version, so either GrapheneOS or LineageOS will have up-to-date Android.

              You might check if your phone can run LineageOS ( https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/ ). If you install Google Apps ( https://wiki.lineageos.org/gapps/ ) , then most bank apps work (though a few don't).

              GrapheneOS is easier to install, with better privacy, but only runs on modern Pixel phones (the 8A is presently $250 on Swappa, supported to 2031)

                If you DM me an app name, I can try loading it on Graphene and LineageOS with MicroG, and see if it launches on both.

                      @NNN @timjan I'd second this. Rather than look at GrapheneOS specifically, look for a more recent third-party phone OS. The bank apps likely target a newer Android SDK level, and the only way to get that is with a newer OS. The 'newer third party Android ' very well might be GrapheneOS.
