I know mastodon is filling up with linux tinkerers , but I'm joining the 'I love Linux quire'. Bought a macbook air from 2015 just to play with. Put Pop_OS! on it and tinkered a bit to get wifi working. Now it starts faster than my new work computer (filled up with #microslop). So the old Apple guy run laps around the HP from 2025. Cosmic is great on a low specs laptop. #computers #linux #pop_os

@iam_jfnklstrm Intel MacBooks are *great* for Linux! And yes, a 2015, despite how old it is, will run just fine, plus you still have media hardware that's better than most off-the-shelf PCs.

@OrionKidder I agree - tried streaming youtube, watched netflix without any issues and as a cherry on top it handles 15+ tabs in Firefox witout getting bogged down. I'm impressed

@iam_jfnklstrm That matches my experience! As long as you're not doing anything that requires really skookum hardware, you're fine. It won't be a gaming machine or a video editor, but it will do all the general computer *stuff* we all do.

Linux exposes the lie that we "need" to replace our computers ever five years. It was simply never true.

@OrionKidder Thats true - my private daily driver is an old Thinkpad T480s that works like clockwork and is durable as hell. That one also kicks my work laptops ass any day!
