I‘m increasingly considering to replace my home automation with just a Python script. I have the feeling that I could then do some things more easily, rather than having to use multiple weird workarounds to shoehorn everything into Homeassistant automations.
Plus there is literally not a single good thermostat module to use. The integrated one is to basic, one from HACS has become terrible and now doesn’t manage to actually turn the heating off anymore.
Another case of „I don’t want my home control to be a constant moving target anymore“.

@jana What is missing from the built-in thermostat module for you? Can imagine a thing or two, but am curious.

@june Biggest thing is integration with a window sensor.
I previously had multiple automations to have the heating turn off in a room, when a windows was opened.
Having that directly integrated, like in one of the HACS modules, makes it a lot nicer to use, because I can still properly control the thermostat, even when the windows are open and I don't need to glue together multiple automations and helpers to create a makeshift state machine for that

I bought some Bosch Zigbee thermostats, that I wanted to use as physical controls for the rooms. Now I can't use their thermostat entity directly, because they are optimized for more normal heating systems and try to turn off early to avoid overshoot. Doesn't work with infrared heating panels, that just turn off immediately. So I would love to just have them be a temperature input to my thermostat, but syncing the state and temperature of 2 thermostats seems incredibly complicated in HA
