@davidgerard This was like six weeks ago, but the head of Norway’s $2 trillion sovereign wealth fund is very high on AI. He’s mandated all developers to use AI, saying those who want it the least need it the most and “you need to be on them like a wasp”. His favourite pastime is walking around asking devs what they’re doing with AI and asking them to explain what’s on their screens. Really some smashing quotes in this article, unfortunately in Norwegian. https://www.kode24.no/artikkel/hvis-du-nekter-a-bruke-ki-er-du-basically-tjukk-i-huet/259609

@glyph so the whole premise is "Web 3 is Going Great But It's AI", originally in 250-word chunks. They're longer chunks now, but it's the same format. The think pieces are in there, but they're always riffs on the thing of the day. I do try to answer "so what does this meeeean". I mean, today's is just "dumb thing, the situation, here's what to do," so it varies. OTOH today's is real short.

thankfully my attention span is real low too

@davidgerard yeah, and you've been killing it. but why isn't it a hint to anyone involved in the topic that "daily news, but only about this one single topic, and everything is bad and stupid" is a reliable business model, now over multiple domains. it really feels like if if I had a blog called "Nathan Sucks Today" and every single day I had a minimum of 5 topics about all the cataclysmically stupid shit that Nathan did that day, maybe Nathan should think about making some changes

@peter_mcmahan @davidgerard this definitely should be on top... I'm sick of hearing techbros talking about feelings of machines and software, at the same time mercilessly exploiting their workers, living and feeling human beings.

@davidgerard “hallucinations” being seen as anything but normal genAI output.

“Guardrails” (including stupid prompts) being seen as the solution to the above.

Everything above being accepted anyway and risk-based problems, as well as all the ethical/moral, societal and environmental ones, just ignored for “left-behindism).

That therefore LLMs fail on a simple measure against all of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Dog, I need a drink now.

@peter_mcmahan @davidgerard that’s… they’ve just described exactly the opposite of what they’re actively trying to do to humans

If you consider “jailbreaking” to be equivalent to the continuous psychological warfare going on

The hypocrisy is so thick you could cut it with a knife.

@davidgerard @pikesley @peter_mcmahan @madargon They hate that actual human beings have the ability to tell them they're wrong and say no to their propositions, while with AI, the answer is always yes and in their eyes, true personhood is only ever granted to people who agree with them.

They're so narcissistic that outside perspectives are never sought, nevermind considered, so it only stands to reason the thing they really want to fuck is a sycophantic virtual mirror, as free of morals as they are, only in it's case it's a quirk of design rather than an intentional choice.

@madargon @peter_mcmahan @davidgerard Limitation of liability is the driver here. The operators seek to deny their human reviewers grounds for negligence by putting "don't be mean" policies in front of the users.

@peter_mcmahan @davidgerard this website feels 100% serious in the same way alex jones is, which is to say whoever wrote this is so high on bullshit there's functionally no difference between lying and being completely earnest
