    Apparently this van was parked outside a polling station in #GortonAndDenton, and the #GreenParty certainly seems to believe it's real because they've asked for an investigation, but most of the discussion on Facebook seems to be on whether the image is AI generated or not. Which if it is real is a complete waste of everyone's time and energy that could go into combatting this sort of thing.

    Edit: apologies, I initially pasted the wrong link https://aboutmanchester.co.uk/greens-report-labour-over-election-rule-break/

      (Yes I'm still reluctantly on Facebook, yes I know Meta is evil, yes I have reasons, if you want to talk about that could you do it in this branch of the thread please and keep the main thread for my main point)

        @kel I thought it was real but I've been taken in before (https://social.coop/@afewbugs/116114961503452136) There are multiple pictures from different angles and the #GreenParty leadership clearly believes it's real enough to have called for an investigation. But that's sort of my point - if it's AI and we treat it as real we're all wasting our time, if it's real and we treat it as AI we're letting people get away with heinous things without consequences, and either way if we're in a place where no one can trust anything they didn't see for themselves we can't really win here.

          @afewbugs I'm usually good at spotting human-made image fakes, having done a lot of image processing myself, but this is either a cleverly done stunt, of the reverse kind to what LedByDonkeys do, or something better than your average fake done for social media. I decent resolution image might help, this is not enough. Why and who attributed it to Labour is my fascination.

            @wavesculptor yes who is behind this (either the real van or the image campaign) definitely needs looking into

              @afewbugs @wavesculptor

              It wouldn't be a million miles away from stuff that Labour actually did post:

                @afewbugs This has only been reported on social media - no mainstream media organisations have run with it - which means it probably hasn’t been reported by anyone to the police as yet, and could well be a fake.
