    This one takes the cake.🤷

Seems like a new scam is AI companies making infringement claims against the musicians they scraped for sounding like themselves.

Turns out it works because the claims are adjudicated by, you guessed it, AI agents.

"Because YouTube’s copyright claim system operates without individual human review of each dispute, Campbell’s channel was effectively handed over [to the AI company.]"

@mastodonmigration This, in my eyes, is another reason not to use YouTube. They have questionable design patterns. YouTube stopped being the underdog a while ago. We need to diversify away from YouTube. @jeeynet

            @jeeynet @mastodonmigration

The entire copyright system built over the last several decades is inherently oppressive and extractive, assuming guilt and requiring people to challenge an prove their innocence. As someone who is most likely to post my own students and ensembles playing I get copy strikes all the time and have for years, on public domain works because the system is built around the premise that the first person to register a performance own the work.

Providing all of your personal information (to YouTube and the claimant), the whole truth and nothing but the truth, under pain of perjury if you get anything wrong or leave anything out.

edit: Doxxing (from 'documenting') was originally a term for non-consensual leaks of any personal info, usually done as revenge.

@mastodonmigration @jeeynet AI generated works cannot be copyrighted because copyright is for human beings only. Both the AI music label and YouTube should be held liable for fraud.

@mastodonmigration @jeeynet Reminds me of the problems that Edwyn Collins had many years ago, pre-"AI." Of course, this time around it's much more deliberate and mechanised. What a timeline!

@mastodonmigration @jeeynet I've been saying since the release of GPT-3 in 2020 that humanity should not allow #AI in any shape or form.

                              *shrugs*

Agreed. It is not the knife that kill, it is the one who uses the knife.

@mastodonmigration @jeeynet Then musicians should move from youtube to PeerTube. https://joinpeertube.org/

@swggrkllr3rd @mastodonmigration @jeeynet how exactly does moving to PeerTube protect you from an automatic DMCA takedown request though?

                                  This one takes the cake.🤷

Seems like a new scam is AI companies making infringement claims against the musicians they scraped for sounding like themselves.

Turns out it works because the claims are adjudicated by, you guessed it, AI agents.

"Because YouTube’s copyright claim system operates without individual human review of each dispute, Campbell’s channel was effectively handed over [to the AI company.]"

AI Company Clones Musician’s Voice, Then Copyright-Strikes Her Own Songs

Folk musician Murphy Campbell found herself at the center of a major ordeal when an entity called Timeless Sounds IR uploaded AI-generated imitations of her music to every major music platform, then used her recordings to strip her of her own income. According to sources, the scheme worked like this: someone fed YouTube videos of ... Read more

Time for a theft of intellectual property lawsuit. I hope she copyrighted all of her material.

I'd *love* to see the judges face when this lawsuit lands.
