@stefano What I love about #Mastodon is the #community. The #spam #scammers and #malicious actors are far and few between. There isn't an incentive to look elsewhere.
Of course, that also speaks *volumes* about instance owners and administrators.

@peteorrall @stefano I've seen this spam exactly once (and reported it). Everything seems to be working fine.

@stefano I was thinking: why does no one make a filter that automatically detects and bans those accounts?
Then I noticed the issue: it would not work. Even if someone provided a closed-source obfuscated plugin so spammers can't just check the source to work around this, they would just reverse engineer this. And having each instance admin develop their own filter is impossible.

I got one the same thing on my account. I was like wtf at first and then I saw the instance and user name was off. Lol

What do you mean there is no Mastodon Moderation Team, then who promoted my account to a Fediverse Gold one for a mere $15?
Sadly, I've seen people who are not the first day on the Fediverse… or Internet, getting fooled by this. No, they didn't get scammed, but they still didn't detect this as obvious scam and it made them believe that maybe some of their posts got reported
