"Why are you such a hater?" "umm, I do like it, i just think it would be slightly better if it were a little different" "wow, a true hater"

@thomasfuchs I dunno if I'm actually on to something here, but the following just occurred to me:

I think one novelty of the Web is that it made sharing images just about as easy and frictionless as sharing text. It used to be that epigrams, aphorisms, and bon mots were primary mechanisms for spreading observations, because they were both pithy and exclusively text-based. But now, we can also pass around cartoons, like this one & most of XKCD (not to even mention memes/image-macros).

On the other hand, maybe it's not specifically the visual medium that makes cartoons impactful: maybe it's the fact that they can represent a dialogue clearly and compactly, in a way that a purely text-based representation cannot?

@thomasfuchs I’m reminded of this comic at least once a day.

@thomasfuchs In my experience LLM boosters seem particularly prone to this:

“oh yeah, I bet you’re *using* something with SI code! And if you don’t list out every piece of software you use you’re proving my point”

Yes I actually encountered someone who demanded this
