      @molly0xfff will never find a use for caps lock that's as good as a backspace key tbh

      the regular backspace is too far away

        @clarfonthey ten years ago i switched to keyboards that put backspace at the thumb and i’ve never looked back. capslock i’ve usually mapped to escape, although that’s the standard config for my new keyboard

          @molly0xfff that's fair; the calculus is totally different if you allow moving keys wherever

          pinky backspace is a decent compromise tbh

            CAPS WORD
            CAPS WORD
            CAPS WORD

            you cannot believe the contortion required to do that 2-handed with just my finger tips and pinky solidly planted on the SHIFT key the whole time. It's like Guitar Hero but for typing.

              @molly0xfff @beep In 1994, I was in a high school keyboarding class (we were using PCs), and the guy next to me was unaware of the shift key, so he would press caps lock, type a capital letter, and press caps lock again to resume lowercase typing. That’s how he thought you got capital letters. I showed him what the shift key does, and he didn’t like it because he’d have to press both keys at the same time. Dude needed a “caps letter” key!

                  @molly0xfff I set this up on my Iris a few years ago and it’s literally the best thing I did since moving to an ortho/ergo layout

                    @molly0xfff I will not be able to unthink this idea, it's as simple as it has been necessary for the last 50 years or so

                      @ramsey @molly0xfff @beep

                      Funny that our phones now use a virtual shift key that locks only until the next key is pressed.

                      Your classmate may have anticipated this development... or caused it.
