    This seems like a good time for a reminder that when COVID hit in 2020 and everyone was living via Zoom Studio Ghibli released a bunch of images from their movies for free use as virtual meeting backgrounds, and those backgrounds are still up and free for you to use

    This is the one I use most often. It sadly fits the tone of most meetings I am called into

      @jalefkowit Up on Poppy Hill is a great film, saw it in the cinema when it was released.

        @jalefkowit My most common background was the burning room from the "this is fine" cartoon, so I could start off the calls.with "hi, this is the engineering department, which is NOT ON FIRE IN ANY WAY, how can I help you?"

          It would be so hard for me to pick one Miyazaki film as my favorite. I love them all so much. But if you put a gun to my head and forced me, KIKI'S DELIVERY SERVICE would be a strong contender.

            @jalefkowit
            One time we were all zooming in from home, and when our boss got up for a moment to step out of frame, I took a snapshot of his home office and made it _my_ background.

            When he came back: *perplexed look* what are you doing in my house?! 🤣

              @DenOfEarth @jalefkowit One of my colleagues had the foresight to take a bunch of pictures of the office meeting rooms from the perspective of the office's built-in meeting cameras, which turned out to be brilliant when the offices were supposed to be locked down and just as brilliant when people thought you should go back to them later.

                  @jalefkowit This and Princess Mononoke are the best. Howl’s Moving Castle gets an honorable mention.

                    That is the one that my wife likes the most (and she was born and raised in Japan). 🇯🇵

                      @jalefkowit Wish I knew this when I was still working. Would have absolutely used the bakery from Kiki or the Catbus or Arietty's room. It's also fun to use sitcom sets. I had used the living rooms from Frazier, Brady Bunch and Golden Girls. We had an IT guy that used the Enterprise bridge.

                        @madengineering @jalefkowit “Everything is fine here. How about you?”
                        “We had a small radioactive leak, but we got it just about locked down.”

                          @mhoye @DenOfEarth @jalefkowit I used to have one that was a photo of a whiteboard at one of the work centers

                          for years people thought I was calling in while on the road

                          I used it while running job interviews once

                            @jalefkowit My favorite is usually the one I've watched most recently. Porco Rosso at the moment.
