Nach massiver Kritik aus der Community hat Discord beschlossen, die weltweite Einführung der Altersverifikation auf die zweite Hälfte des Jahres 2026 zu verschieben. Zudem plant das Unternehmen, zusätzliche Verifizierungsoptionen einzuführen, anstatt sich ausschließlich auf staatliche Ausweisdokumente oder Gesichtsscans zu verlassen.

Haven ist ein kleiner Discord-Clone zum selbst hosten mit sehr responsive Developer. Optisch sehr gamerhaft und braucht mal einen echten Designer, aber der Entwickler ist schnell und reagiert gut.

Wird nie viele grosse Communities hosten, aber um einen Voice & Chat für die eigene Gilde auf einem VPC zum Wegwerfen zu haben ausnehmend geeignet.

Und related: Libera faßt IRC V3 ins Auge. Dies adressiert graduell viele der alten Beschränkungen von IRC ohne IRC fundamental zu modernisieren – ein Haufen Features, die man in 2026 erwarten würde fehlen immer noch, aber immerhin ist es nicht mehr komplett auf dem Stand von 1986.

Kein Client unterstützt derzeit alle neuen Server-Features.

Unklar, ob Steinzeit-Ircnetzwerke wie ircnet mitgehen werden – dort hat man noch nicht einmal SASL auth beim Connect deployed und verläßt sich weiter auf IP-Range massenhaft beim Ban und kennt auch keine Cloaks.

There is hardly any visible development speed. They talk about federation (of message) and e2e encryption (of channels, not DMs), and have no clue what that implies, and they have a "working" server on a really exotic base.
