So, two days after I posted an article on how AI is stealing my thinking, and the need to reclaim my brain, I got an ISP outage for a full day’s work.

This was like a hands-on exercise, and I took notes along the way: https://moskitohero.com/post/2026-05-16-disconnected-one-day-working-without-the-internet/

@MoskitoHero so… I don’t have issues with internet but I kinda fixed a few of the problem you had pursuing other goals.
GitHub has a CLI. It can create PRs using API. This uses much less network and usable even on weak mobile internet. This is even useful when you have proper connection because gh has rewritten its web on react not too long ago and it lags even on a proper laptop.
Dash is godsend. It’s offline docs browser. You choose docsets you want and it automatically keeps them up to date. You can get things like HTML spec, CSS, JS, Typescript, Ruby and Rails, but also specific gems, and even StackOverflow by section. Search is lightning fast, too. I think that for docs lookup it’s better than web search like 95% of the time.
Music. I’ve been a bit disappointed with Apple Music recently so I looked into making a proper offline library. I use navidrome as music server. It provides subsonic api and there are a plenty of clients out there for all platforms. You can stream from your local machine, you can stream over the network, or you can download all or subset of your music to your devices and sync once in a while. It can be as some or as complex as you want. It’s a bit of a rabbit hole though so exercise caution. So far I’m happy with it.
