@paco You can get Rocket League working via Heroic Games Launcher, it's a great replacement for the Epic Games app on Linux. I play it with my brothers every now and then. I don't know anything about Apex unfortunately, do you know if it'll run in a virtual machine? If your kid is on a desktop rather than a laptop it may be possible to do a vm with GPU pass-through, but idk if that's worth the effort or feasible.

@mrbones909 that’s a neat idea. I hadn’t thought of running windows in a VM. But it’s a ton of work.

@paco Rocket League runs great on steam proton

EA seems actively hostile toward Linux. My gut says its more about a general aversion to open source among the c-suite, but I could be wrong.

@bruce I know less than nothing, because I barely play any games like this. But if I were to hazard a guess, I can think of 2 reasons that feel way more plausible to me than the cheating BS.
Anything you build, you have to support at least a little. And they probably see the labour (I.e.cost) of Linux stuff as not worth the revenue. All tech companies are in a firing mood right now. They only support the middle of the bell curve. Innovation is gone. Return-on-investment is the only game in town.
Steam is a competitor. So hurting the steam deck doesn’t really hurt EA?

@paco there's a youtuber retrofitting a car like this with an electric powertrain
it's diy but it can be done
actually easier in those old boats, there's so much room you don't need for other stuff

@paco apparently the regenerative braking is so effective you barely need real breaks
(you still need them but)

@moira I have a really good car for this and I wish I could find someone that could do the work. I'm handy around the house and with computers, but I would never drive a car where I had a hand in fitting the engine.
