Hello fedi, I'm Horia!
I'm a trans man and art student, currently wrapping up my bachelor studies in arts numériques at Saint-Luc. I'll be moving from #bruxelles to #helsinki this summer to pursue a master degree in Visual Communication Design at Aalto University (and more importantly, move in with my partner). Feel free to hit me up if you're in the area and wanna hang out or have ideas for cool spots to check out!
My recent internship led me to a (moderately) deep dive into the legacy of CD-ROMs and media preservation. I'm very curious about all kinds of practices but I especially love art games and poetic web stuffs. I'm currently interested in exploring print and publications.
I have a background in drawing and I'm often walking with a sketchbook on hand so you can expect occasional scribbles from me if nothing else.

@ghostsnwitches Oooh, down to brass tax on archival data saving!
Canada used to, and may still, have a law that school records had to be preserved for 100 years.
Between bit-rot, format-rot, filesystem-rot, and player-rot, they picked....microfiche. It has proven 100+ year reliability and you can make a reader from scratch without advanced technology.
Fascinating stuff!

@gedvondur that's really interesting, is there any documentation out there on how to make a reader from scratch

?@ghostsnwitches Tons. But it depends on what you want an how primitive.
This Custom Microfiche Reader Was Built Specifically to Recover Vintage HP Technical Documents
CuriousMarc received microfiche film with information about old HP parts so he used a cheap digital microscope to build a microfiche viewer.
Hackster.io (www.hackster.io)
All you really need is a light and a lens.
You can find old ones in office equipment sales too.
