Any good, currently well maintained, alternatives to Discord?

For obvious reasons, I'm not interested in giving them either my face or my legal identification.

I also find the timing of this change to be pretty horrible. They just had thousands of stored documents leak, and they're planning to go public? Yeah, forget about it.

@scarlet I assume that "cleaning it up" for going public is very much intentional, and they know their main demographic, gamers, will make a huge fuss for like two days and then just go along with it anyway

@scarlet@plush.city I've been suggesting Stoat. It's rough around the edges, but it's FOSS, and I've watched them steadily progress and keep working on it for years now. It'll definitely be an investment in the future, but, I really think it's the ideal play right now. More support means that future gets here sooner.

@scarlet I don't know if its any good but apparently TeamSpeak provides the same function as Discord these days

@earth_walker @scarlet Rocket chat seems very enterprise-focused, and it seems to require self-hosting. But it also seems pretty cool, have you used it? Do you have more info?

@november @scarlet sorry, I don't know much about rocket.chat other than that it comes up on a lot of discord alternative lists and it is open source.
