Een fascinerend mutualistisch tafereel op een tak in mijn tuin — rode mieren (Formica sp.) die een dichte kolonie zwarte bladluizen bewaken. De mieren beschermen de bladluizen tegen roofdieren, in ruil voor de zoete honingdauw die de bladluizen afscheiden. De natuur zit vol zulke onverwachte samenwerkingen!
