For me, it's about posting what I like without fear of some silly sausage moaning to an Admin about me.

My biggest win: I can now access my old phone photos easily, without needing to pay Forever Rent️ to #apple for #iCloud thanks to the brilliant software #immich

Could be you wouldn't know unless you're looking into this sort of thing. Have you looked at the logs and stuff to see what it's default defense mechanisms have stopped? I believe it has built in fail2ban and such, no?

@_elena thanks for introducing me to Yuno Host. I've set up linux servers and docker containers, but I don't want to do it again. I see other novices having good experiences with Yuno Host https://lemmy.world/post/37132643

I haven't finished your guide yet, but I must start keeping my services LAN-only until until I learn enough about the security side of things. That's another area that I hope becomes unified too (if it isn't already).

@_elena I got inspiration from your posts to try yunohost, but for hosting nextcloud at home. It's all up and running now

The only issue with that was the lack of documentation for absolute beginners for installing on a home server.
