    @mcc The vinyl record. I'd need to find a sewing needle, but I could play the record without making additional purchases. I don't think my computer's CD drive can play redbook as it stands. #lang_en

      @mcc I never had an 8-track because by the time I was trash-picking my own stereo components as a teenager I had the impression they sounded bad and were inconvenient. But of course I had a turntable and a cassette deck because you needed those! 😁

        @mcc I hate to admit, but I have a few modern vinyl records simply because I liked the look of them, and have no intention of owning a record player.

          @mcc I'm a "maybe" for cassette tape. I have a cassette player that works but doesn't have a power supply but I could probably get one for free because it just takes 12v and I have 12v supplies around, I'd just need to trim the connector and use bare wires

                      @ellenor2000 @mcc It almost certainly can, unless you're using something very obscure and basic operating system wise.

                      Back in the mists of time a CD drive needed a cable to connect to your soundcard, and then a piece of software to tell it to output analogue data, but digital transfers and playback of the track data have been a thing for over 30 years now.

                              @gnometsunami I think probably cleaning solution should count as something you could plausibly beg for a neighbor. However, if contacts must be de-rusted, I call into question your neighbors' garage contents

                                    @mcc couldn't you run the player piano reel through a scanner and wave software over it? Not *easy*, but way easier to improvise than the others.

                                          @syllopsium @mcc I mean, I'm concerned the drive is broken. #lang_en
