@hexaitos Reminds me of the shenanigans a streamer I watch used to do in his corporate job days.

@fox Have you done any extensive theming yet? If so (and you'd be comfortable sharing, ofc!) it'd be super interesting to see!

@hexaitos aaaa I haven't done much at least that I've made myself,, (though ive been tempted to figure out going more in depth with stuff one day,,,,) have mostly just downloaded different gtk themes, extensions etc to use with cinnamon!

a bit after starting with mint I convinced owl to let me use a macOS lion theme + cairo-dock old mac theme which was great for awhile,,,

currently have things looking like this!

@fox That looks really cool though >:3 I also love the background~ Maybe having different user accounts for each of you? I am not sure how well that would work, but it might make the themeing for everyone a bit easier!

and we've thought about trying that actually!! @rain in particular has pushed for us trying that a few times, but we haven't gone ahead and attempted it quite yet,,

@fox @rain Yeah understandable, would be quite a bit of work

I am not sure if you can make like… custom themes? In KDE Plasma at least you can get a theme (or just use the default Breeze), customise it to your liking and save that as a new theme (including icons, cursor… all that stuff). That way you could easily switch between different sets of themes / customisations?

@fox @rain aww that's a shame :< Plasma is definitely really nice! But if you're happy with cinnamon and can live with the theming for now then you should totally stay with that for now! You should be able to just install Plasma in addition to Cinnamon though! And then on your login screen, you should find a button that allows you to switch between the different desktop environments. Something for you to look into if you ever have the time / energy! How exactly you install it would depend on the distribution, but I think with Linux Mint being based off of Ubuntu, it should be easy to find in their repos!

@hexaitos aaaa yeah, ive thought about doing something like that, have been a bit thrown off by folks mentioning it can lead to some weird to fix problems so haven't done so yet!

When distro hopping in the past, we've used both plasma and gnome for a bit on this computer! unfortunately ran into a lot of graphical problems that made both pretty much unusable and were not able to fix, kind of chalked up both to us being on 10+ year old hardware but am not 100% sure?

our laptop is much newer though and runs both flawlessly, we currently have gnome on it cause we enjoy it a lot as a laptop interface, but have been continuously tempted to try out kde again there :3

@fox Yeah you theoretically can run two DEs simultaneously but it definitely could lead to some weird glitches. I haven't done it in a while and in the past when I did do it, it worked mostly okay. But… you never know with these things So while technically possible, it definitely can absolutely lead to weird bugs and glitches, so that is definitely something to keep in mind.

If you're happy with Gnome so far then definitely just stick with that for now :3 Could also always try KDE either in a VM if you are comfortable with that or by making a live ISO (a USB stick you just boot from and then just use the OS on the USB stick itself for a bit to try it out). That way, you can figure out if you'd actually like it or if you'd rather stick with Gnome after all anyway! Use whatever works for you and if that's Gnome that's great >:3
