    Young Sheldon? 😂 17-year-old, who is slated to graduate from University of California, Irvine, in the coming months, whose home laboratory sparked FBI investigation, evacuations, and the National Guard's Weapons of Mass Destruction Civil Support Team to handle the contents of his lab, speaks out

      @paul

      My gut feel - over reaction by people who don't really know what they are looking at.

      And yes, a well equipped home chem lab will have hazardous stuff in it. Though this kid may have more then usual.

      Then again, the combo of the kitchen, liquor cabinet, and cleaning supplies can make some interesting stuff, too.

      Or what is in the garage and/or garden shed.

        @paul

        My concern is that since various agencies have now invested so much time/energy/effort into this, they will find some type of trumped up charges to file against the kid and his parents.

        Not to mention getting kicked out of their rented(?) house.

        Oh, someone back in 1994 out did this. Type 'Nuclear Boy Scout' into Wikipedia...

          @Jason844 @paul It’s really odd. Even the kid doesn’t seem to know what they found:

          “I gave my full cooperation and gave them my phone, and I gave them as much information as possible, but I’m not sure exactly what materials inside the home they would be suspicious about.”

            I have a vague hunch about what this raid was about. About 10% chance a hair-raising story I heard about a particular home chemist was about them. If yes...the hazmat suits were not overkill. Phosgene is no joke.

              @Methylzero

              Then never buy or have Drano (or similar) and bleach in your house either.

                @Jason844 What a story. Looks like he was going for a redo in 2007. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Hahn
