    I'm still setting up my new secondhand windows 11 (I know, but not quite ready for Linux yet, life is complicated etc) laptop.
    No MS sign in, so no Office & trying to avoid AI telemetry etc.

    I've uninstalled Malwarebytes after the free trial, so it's reverted to the free Windows Defender.

    Q1. Will that do for protection?

    Q2. The refurb co has Open Office to install, would Libre Office be better?

    TIA

      @srfirehorseart Libre Office is better, Open Office is basically unmaintained

        @neckspike

        Many thanks for the warning.
        ❗

        I'm also leaning to Libre as I've read it can save docs to MS formats, which I may need at times.

          @srfirehorseart I'd say go for Libre Office, yes. It's able to do everything MS Office can and more.
          And one of the free tier Anti-Virus programmes (search for best free etc.) AVG/Avast/etc. And choose the one that suits you best. I think Avast is the current most recommended but it's mostly a matter of preference. Microsoft Defender isn't bad these days, but not up to the standard of specialist packages by a % margin.
          That said, if you don't need exotic drivers, Zorin or Mint Linux might be ok.

            @TerryBTwo
            Many thanks for confirming Libre office

            And answering my antivirus s/ware query.

            Linux will have to wait until I feel more settled. Maybe I'll then run a stick drive version to learn the OS.
