I broke up with a friend group a few years ago. The memory still comes back to me occasionally, and each time, it’s like I mentally have to justify it all over again. Explain (to who? myself, I guess) why I did it, and why I did it the way I did. I wish I could just let it go.

Related: Apple iMessage sucks. You don’t want to see notifications from a group chat? No problem, just mute the chat. What’s that? You’re still seeing the group chat in bold at the top of your messages, with (x) number of unread messages? What are you complaining about? At least it’s not ringing a bell each time a message comes in. If it bothers you so much, why don’t you just leave the group? We’ve got your back, we’ll notify each member of the group that you left. No sneaking out quietly here!

@dillyd That's definitely trauma. Perhaps there's a few things that weren't addressed that you need addressed to move on? I get the same with my mother, I haven't talked to her in 10+ years, and I've tried to reach out a few times, only to be met with the sound of crickets.

@desantis thanks for understanding. Sorry it's like that with your mother.

No one should every use the group messages. I have a buddy who does that sometimes, and pretty soon I'm getting message to him (to the group) from unknown numbers. Sometimes it goes on and on.

@dillyd It's ok. We're only human, right? To give a little detail, my parents divorced after years of daily arguing and drama. I was only 10 when it happened. My mom always resented me for not joining in on the daily trash talking about my dad. She never respected my boundary of "don't talk shit about him in front of me", and I fucking suffered for years. She kicked me out of her house on Christmas Eve a long time ago, and the final straw was when she lost her mind on the phone to me, after she saw a picture of my dad and his girlfriend at my (then) new house. She was very toxic and talked about suicide and saying other hateful things. I didn't need that around my family.

@dillyd I have found writing it down once helps with that kind of thing
