    New blog post:Domain prices in 2026 for my portfolio

    Gandi.net let me down two years ago and I switched for my 22 domains. Today I look at what happened since with domain renewal prices in the EU.

      @jwildeboer I‘ve been with Gandi for more than 10 years, moved my last domains last year and it already saved me quite a buck. Only thing which was good was that I renewed my primary (.io) domain for 10 years when they increased its renewal pricing.

          @jwildeboer I’ve been using free subdomains for quite a few years now. Last domain I purchased was in the late 90s and I let it expire in the early 2000s.

          The pro: free use of up to 5 subdomains generously provided by other users. Simple DDNS scripting.

          The con: lack of ownership. Could need to switch at the drop of a hat (maybe even a red colored one). Ephemeral nature, what is not yours could disappear at any moment on the whims of the owner.

          The current base domain has been renewed for 8717 days and up for renewal next month.

          I’d be curious if there is an EU equivalent to this sort of co-op.

            @jwildeboer When Gandi changed its way, I switched to porkbun, which I recommend.

              @jwildeboer nicely done.

              I was going to leave hostinger in a data sovereignty shift... but it ends up they are Lithuanian and it took me a window of 12 hours to move my sites to German rather than US servers.

              And.

              Your post highlights the need to vote with our feet. Really good research.

              🙃

                Added https://infomaniak.com from Switzerland, who came out on 8th place with a renewal total of €338,43. They list their prices without VAT, so I added 19% (German VAT rate, because that's where I live) to their renewal prices.

                    @jwildeboer Do you do these evals manually or do you have tooling for that? Asking for a friend with a domain portfolio that includes an exotic tld. 😅

                        @jwildeboer I swear domain pricing is a scam. It makes zero sense that they keep getting more expensive as time progresses.

                          @jwildeboer interesting analysis. With my 3 .de and 2 .eu seems like I'm at the right provider with inwx 🤷

                            @jwildeboer They also offer K-suite, which is a way better and complete replacement for 365 than Proton. My wife started using it, because she didn't want Nextcloud for her company and she is really happy with it. I am genuinely impressed.
