Following instructions from the Caley Brothers ("Project Mushroom"), I've tried to grow some #mycelium of king oyster mushroom today.
shred brown cardboard
sanitize it with boiling water
desinfect your hands
squeeze cardboard, to drain water
put it in layers into a sterilized contaier
put sliced mushroom stems between the layers
close with a lid
keep in warm, dark place for 7-10 daysThe Caleys said to drill holes into the container. I made one hole and covered it with bandaid.

#Mushroom update
The #mycelium of the king oyster mushroom has developed really well!
Today, I soaked shredded paper und cardboard in boiling water, cooled it down and placed blocks of the mycelium in it.
The grow bag is now closed for the next few weeks until all the paper has grown mycelium. Then I'll cut some holes into the bag.

@feinschmeckergarten did you also had a look inside the box after the announced 7 to 10 days?

@feinschmeckergarten did you just use the stems of mushrooms from the store?

@stfn Yes, I used the stems of some shop bought king oyster mushrooms. Some had a little bit of mycelium on them.

@Aubrieta There was a tiny bit of development after about a week and I could have proceeded a week or so earlier. However, life gets in the way sometimes.

@Aubrieta I tried chestnut mushrooms with the same technique, too, but there is hardly any mycelium development in the three containers.

If it does not hurt why rushing things.
I was curious whetherthere are any downsides or if it would have been too early.
The idea is now to get the paper in the blue bag "injected" to get mushrooms grow out of slits at the side of the bag? -

@feinschmeckergarten Hello to the very north of Germany. It appears the mushroom growing is going well. This is my backup account, unless the epicure.social account is fatally flawed. #growyourown

@Pollinators So far so good for the first attempt at making my own starter mycelium.

I follow your backup account just in case something happens to the main one.
I should follow your example and get some backup, too. -
