    How many national parliaments (the buildings) have you visited?

    My hypothesis is that a significant mid-double-digit percentage of people have at least visited the one in their home country (often as part of a school trip) and the other options will all be single digit percentages.

    I'm not gonne do the "boost for scientific accuracy" thing here.. but, uhm.. if you can boost this it'll be more accurate, in a scientistic way.

    @Pepijn Zero.

    But I have done my EUropatriotic duty and visited both visitor centres of the lower chamber of the 🇪🇺 Parliament and had a blast.

      @Pepijn Made a mistake and voted wrong. I did not visit the parliament of my country, but I was in the Bundestag. That makes it one, not zero.

          @Pepijn none for me. The US capitol is far from the west coast so a school trip was not an option and in all of my travels I’ve never thought to tour the inside of a government building.

            @Pepijn I mean for Russia, the USA or Canada to visit the /national/ one may be a bit of a push. But if you allow for state/provincial/regional parliaments and such, it becomes a lot more common even there. — Violet

            @helle @Pepijn especially when the national legislature is based on an extreme edge of the country

            (and, for my experience, related to that: I've been to the outside of the US Capitol once, late at night, a group of friends was meeting with a member of the group who was working on a security system there. another member of the group took a drunken piss on the grounds, because, why not? the snipers that were watching us did nothing.)

            speaking of which, should non-Europeans vote in this poll?

                  @Pepijn I've been outside at least three (Swedish riksdag, UK houses of parliament and the EU parliament in Strasbourg), but never inside.

                    I'm not a collecting type of traveler, but I think I'll make the 5+. I have only taken a tour inside a parliament building twice (Bundestag Germany and Capitol USA). If it counts to only be standing in front of the building taking pictures of it I have at least three more (UK, Liechtenstein and my own country, Switzerland)

                        @Pepijn
                        Basically all of southeast Ontario is within a day-trip of Parliament Hill, so school trips to the capital are a pretty standard thing here. I went a few times with school, and almost but didn't quite participate in the Parliamentary Page Program, where local school kids work as parliamentary gophers.

                        No other national or local/provincial/state legislatures, though. Haven't even been to the provincial legislature in Toronto, and never to any American government thing.

                          @helle @Pepijn The Canadian federal parliament is relatively easy; I was milling around outside when when a tour guide asked if we wanted to take a tour, and so we got to go in. That was before the construction started, to be fair.

                          But yeah, it's way more common in the US to visit state capitols, and you're way more likely to meet a legislator that way.

                            @Pepijn I think you overestimate school trips in many countries. I've been on so few I could probably count them on one hand and we never left the county. There's just no money for such "fancy" trips in a lot of schools, at least in the UK.

                                @kemra102 No I don't. That's why I specifically added the comment on how some countries actively subsidise this.

                                People in the comments pointed out how at least both the Scottish and Welsh parliaments offer subsidy 😉

                                  @Pepijn Only one that I can think of (the US Capitol) and it's not even on my home continent never mind my home country. But I mean I'm European, it's possible I tripped over one at some point and forgot about it

                                    @Pepijn does Þingvellir in Iceland count?

                                    @v_perjorative @Pepijn If it does, then Tynwald on the lsle of Man counts as well.

                                      @Pepijn @clay I've only visited one, but it's *not* my home country's (USA). It's Iceland's Alþingi in Reykjavík.

                                          "isn't this just asking if people are rich and/or in a big country"

                                          People replied the same thing on the poll asking whether they'd personally sat on a cow 🙂

                                          As with the cows there's much more to it. There's lots of European countries with subsidised trips for schools to visit the legislature. And other, small countries, without that.

                                          Also: Seriously. I'm not asking if you own a moon. The fast majority of us have the financial means to visit another city at least once in our life..

                                          Reply to my own poll: 7 (assuming the Welsh Senedd* counts).

                                          Fond memory: in 2005 I tagged along with senior-staff members of the NGO I was with, to visit someone in the Greek parliament. As we arrived there was a festive mood. We got cake. I still don't know if it was the birthday of the Greek state or some guy.

                                          *I first visited a month before opening to help test audio systems in the main meeting space. Visited again on the day it opened. Very grateful for that, it's a beautiful symbol 🙂
