@joeo10 This is insane. There was a post earlier today about this that nailed it.

@AAKL @joeo10 Yes this is silliness. However it would be just as well for the tech industry to take a break from getting new stuff for a few years. Instead work on efficiency and reliability and making this fixable.

A shortage of hardware would be a good thing. The industry is flabby and needs to get in shape.

@mike805 @joeo10 The problem is that these dodos are starving everything outside the periphery of data centers of everything - hardware, power, water, not to mention ongoing efforts to hollow out the human web to serve the bots.

@AAKL @joeo10 They should be required to pay the full infrastructure cost of all the water and electricity they need. This would be a great way to get renewable solar infrastructure built out on the dime of Wall Street. And if they lose their speculative bet, too bad, we still have the solar infrastructure.

Most of the early railroad builders went broke but the rails were still there and were put to use. Likewise the early 21st century fiber buildout.

@mike805 @joeo10 A Politico poll (sample of 2,000) I posted earlier today suggested that consumers are willing to pay for small power increases like $5 or $10. But it gets ugly with larger amounts.

@AAKL @mike805 With already rising electric and heating bills, it will get worse over time. Expect dark times ahead I feel.

@joeo10 @AAKL The ultimate loser here is going to be the power utilities. If electricity costs double or triple, solar plus LiFePo4 batteries start to look really good. One day you notice you have not used any grid power for a few months and you cancel your electric service. Kinda like most people have done with their landlines.

@mike805 @joeo10 As @cR0w mentioned a while bakc, we'll all be paying Big Tech instead. They'll be the ones selling power and, more importantly, how much to dole out.

@AAKL @joeo10 @cR0w Thankfully, Elon Musk does not own the sun. Nor does Zuckerberg or Bezos.

Any one of the above might try to claim it someday, in which case they should be invited to land there and plant a flag!
