and AND musk's response to his co-founders walking out was to hold an all hands meeting where he told employees xAI needs...

@Taweret check into spinlaunch, a different startup that wants to spin-launch satellites from the earth

even though you can prove on the back of an envelope it'll never work

@wohali @Taweret it's hilarious, though iirc there's still a rocket engine, the spln is just giving the rocket (and heavy fuel) as much boost as possible before ignition.

That doesn't make it any more likely to work, or help the rocket and payload survive the transition of forces at release.

It also doesn't make it any less funny.

@Taweret@timeloop.cafe A rocket company in China had a test launch of a mass driver-assisted rocket a year or two ago, but I think it didn't go all that well.

As for the rest, I think Elon played Bioshock and was captivated by the idea of a city run entirely by unrestrained capitalism, but he's more into space than the ocean.

Also he apparently wanted to use Mars as a stepping stone to other star systems, which... it's like tilting your head slightly to one direction as a stepping stone to traveling around the world.
