    Weird question but does anyone here know of a religion that doesn't suck? Something that is LGBTQ+ friendly and promotes love and equality?

    @meluzzy@woof.tech As far as I know, Buddhism is relatively accepting? Possibly depends on a specific denomination, however I find many other of their practices to be very progressive and generally... sensible?

      @iyanne @meluzzy that sounds like a sentiment I've heard before as well. Personally, I'm not particularly interested in it, but it might be a good place to look if you are.

        @meluzzy boy howdy, what a difficult question to answer. As someone who has done some light comparative religious studies and a dabble of spiritualism here and there, I don't think any are wholly free of sin. Depending on what values you hold dearest, I've seen some pretty sick dudists. Most people who used to call themselves Jedi (myself included) call themselves something else now if they're worth their salt, and often do more than a little work to distance themselves from the very cop-adjacent source material organization. Buddhism and daoism have some real appeal as well.

        Tl;dr, can you be any more specific about what you'd want out of it?

          @HeralayanSalty@wetdry.world @meluzzy@woof.tech Admittedly I don't have that much experience, however I worked at a buddhist-owned establishment, and as a result got to attend several teachings, it really was fascinating! Nothing like the shit I was accustomed to with Christianity, if I ever wanted to explore spirituality, I'd definitely go in that direction first.

            @violet Okay so basically I was forced into Catholic Christianism until I was 15 or so. And I really really disliked a lot of it. But now I have a major depressive disorder that is resistant to therapy (TRD) and some people say religion helped them get better. So I am looking for something I can believe to give life meaning so that I can push forward

              @violet Thing is I don't believe and have never truly believed in a "GOD" but I think that if I did maybe I could more easily get around many depressive thoughts.
              Like my mom just goes to church and prays a bit and she feels like that is going to help me recover from my depression and I would like to have something similar. Now to be clear I don't believe in GOD but maybe I can find a way to?

                @meluzzy gotcha. I was raised in a Christian cult, so I wholly empathize.

                Here's my advice given what I know of your situation then:

                Religion and spirituality aren't a circle, they are a venn diagram. I would encourage you to engage in your own spirituality and see where that leads you

                Why not give a more specific suggestion?

                Because there are so many people in every kind of religious community who want to find someone at the lowest point in their life, looking for something to believe in, just so they can exploit them.

                If you search for answers within first, find what you believe in and let it grow naturally from there, fraudsters and hacks will have far less ammo by which to try and indoctrinate you for their own purposes

                ( Hope that doesn't sound preachy, just concerned as someone who has been in a similar position and wants to offer the best advice I can )

                  @meluzzy if using belief as a tool is your goal, then I may have more specific recommendations :chaote: , but read my other reply first. Then decide if that's also something you'd like me to share :3

                    @violet I really just want to use it as a tool to get better at healing my depression. I don't know if I can actually believe in a religion but It's worth a shot.

                        @meluzzy
                        There's Unitarian Universalism, of course. Sort of derived from Christian tradition, but not technically Christian. Very LGBTQ+ friendly. No dogma per se, but the "seven principals" define a moral framework, in which more specific spiritual beliefs can be explored freely. It is possible to be UU and Atheist, Pagan, or Christian, for example.
