Maybe my favorite album of the late '80s

@danfairs I remember it was maybe the first record that he did where he got an actual drummer and bass player on there. If I'm not mistaken on surfing and blue dream it was a drum machine and him playing bass

@samvarma That was definitely the case on Not Of This Earth. I can’t find my copy of Surfing right now, but on FIABD, there are a variety of bass and drum credits.

@samvarma holy shit. i musta downloaded like a decade ago. the tremelo ep came out either right before or after loveless and they have some if the songs retooled.

feed me with your kiss and you made me realise eps are
post-isnt anything. theyre still pretty noisy but not as ethereal as loveless

@samvarma @NigelTufnel Born in 82, so I’m an elder millennial. Still, album covers were big in my formative years as well.

I’m sad this band doesn’t get as much nostalgia generally as I think they deserved. Ed E Rolland will always be one of my songwriting heroes.

It varied, but yeah: the shadow of the Roland Jazz Chorus was getting very long. That album also has pitch-shifted/processed drums. So, you know, Phil Collins' shadow. 😉

@samvarma Dookie was hugely successful, but it didnt get adapted into a broadway musical. 😅

Without checking any numbers, I feel like American Idiot was way more successful and had a bigger, longer-lasting impact on our culture.
