Do people do intro posts on Mastodon? I don't know.
Hi, I'm Thomas - new here and possibly moving from Threads because it's driving me nuts.
From the UK, live on a narrowboat, PhD in formal logic focussing on legal reasoning. Now a software engineer trying building a site to document arguments ( Controvis ) - argumentation is one of my main interests (both formal and not).
Economically left and socially liberal. Was a member of the Lib Dems but didn't think they took a hard enough stance against transphobia. So erm, maybe I'll join the Greens, I don't know.

@thomaschristopherking hi Thomas
Yes, introductions are customary and if you want it to be seen by more people, especially outside the social coop server, you can add to your initial post the hashtag #introduction.
You can also add hashtags relating to your interests (ex. #narrowboat).
welcome!

@marsiposa That's brilliant and I just realised I can edit it long after the original post.

@thomaschristopherking yes! you can edit long after posting! It's so good for those of us prone to typos
In case it's useful, some additional info about the edits (please skip if you don't want to read about it now!):
- There will be a record of your edits (i.e. don't use "edit" to delete information you want to actually be gone)
- If you edit a post, Mastodon sends a notification to people that have "boosted" it. It's a safety feature in case, let's say, a bad actor changed the content of a post to something offensive. Most times, though, people uses it to correct information they found after posting.

@marsiposa Ah thanks that's good to know. If people are getting notifications I'll probably proof-read my replies before posting (on Threads I proof-read after posting lol)

@thomaschristopherking notifications go only to boosts (not to faves) but yeah, proofreading is helpful.
A known conundrum is: do I fix the typo and inform everyone about it, or do I let the post keep going around with the typo, and have everyone see it
