I remember being really shocked finding out Trump won in 2024. Because I new that was a decisive dark moment in history.

On Sunday, there is a new decisive moment, when the Hungarians decide if Viktor Orbán's corrupt regime continues, or Péter Magyar takes over.

    Let this time be different.

The Hungarians need a brighter future.

The world needs a brighter future.

@randahl what's the separation scenario? The Brexit thing was a mess, and that was a country prying itself away, not a country getting the boot. They're ready to start printing out BYD cars on EU soil, gateway to the marketplace. Kick him out and Russia becomes their number one customer turned brand-new owner. Sounds complicated.

We all need a future that is free of murderous petrostate despots & oil oligarchs and their corrupt minions like Orban and Trump.

I remember the turn of the millennium when Putin came to power. He was officially elected president in March 2000. There was hope, but this feeling wouldn't leave me. Power corrupts people, but hope always wants to remain the prevailing emotion. Is it human arrogance or a systemic flaw, the lust for power or hope?

Most Hungarians would probably govern the country more honestly than Viktor Orbán. So let's hope—for Hungary, for Europe, and for a minimum of justice.

@randahl let’s just be clear that Magyar isn’t a progressive, he used to be in the same party as Orbán and holds a lot of the same views.

This won’t magically fix things, it is fascism lite at best, we should all continue applying pressure on Hungary to change.

Yet the people will be better off with Orbán gone and as such they will hopefully not choose to shoot themselves in the foot, what a novel idea.

Never underestimate the stupidity of the American public. Nonpartisan GovTrack listed Kamala as one of the top four most liberal senators during her tenure. She also co-sponsored Bernie Sanders’ "Medicare for All" bill. Yet the leftists still found a way to not support her.

we want to be free of Orban, so let's get Magyar in first

*then* apply the criticism of Magyar

                not now!

Magyar is pro-EU, Orban is busy licking Putin's boots

that choice alone is a huge earthquake

                you understand that

                therefore:

right now, on April 9, you want to be singing the praises of Peter Magyar

                right?

                a little strategic intelligence please!

                Lick Putin's boots?

Orbán licks any boot that benefits his ego and his hold on power.

                Ask JD Vance.

On Sunday, there is a new decisive moment, when the Hungarians decide if Viktor Orbán's corrupt regime continues, or Péter Magyar takes over.

                            Let this time be different.

The Hungarians need a brighter future.

The world needs a brighter future.

                            @randahl
I won't forget that feeling. I was sitting next to my wife and I asked her, is this feeling of helplessness the same feeling minorities and women have to live with? She said yes

@benroyce @DavidNielsen @randahl Demographics is destiny, and if nothing changes, the EU will be Islamic in a few decades. That is math, not politics.

They have also made a lot of dumb economic decisions, like Germany becoming dependent on Russian gas and then getting rid of its nuclear power.

Russia is worse, yes. That doesn't make the EU good. I'd like to see Eastern Europe remain independent from both.

If the EU and Russia get into a war they will want the USA to come in. We should not.

@benroyce @DavidNielsen @randahl We have incompatible worldviews and we aren't going to convince each other of anything. Oh well. That is life in a divided society.

I remember being really shocked finding out Trump won in 2024. Because I new that was a decisive dark moment in history.

true words, Randahl. I posted on Facebook earlier after seeing a post claiming that JD Vance's endorsement of Orban dropped Orban 3 pts. So, I said, JD needs to go back 2 more days!

@benroyce @DavidNielsen @randahl Russia is fascistic and the EU is going either Islamist or Communist or both. Not equating them, they are opposites, but in the hell or high water sense. I'd rather avoid both.

The opposite of a bad thing is not always a good thing.

@SamsenBdRi @randahl He already was corrupt at that time (see his work in St. Petersburg administration).
