Both the Linux kernel and systemd now contain slop or are open to adding slop.

    I have nowhere to go.

@nina_kali_nina Same, but gaming will remain a Linux thing (I guess I might as well just go Windows for gaming then).

FreeBSD is a no-go (they allow flashy X fork), NetBSD is amazing but a bit too limited, so OpenBSD, which I really like, remains.

Honestly, why am I even Linux at this point? I use it to get away from proprietary garbage, but once you open the floodgates to slop, I fear the garbage will find a way.

I might as well just switch back to Windows and not deal with the gaming headaches Linux still presents. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

As for BSD... Time to make some people real mad: NetBSD is amazing but too limited for me, FreeBSD is entirely okay with letting fascist X forks in, which leaves OpenBSD, which I love and enjoy, but does come with serious limitations.

I want to want BSD, but I'm not sure I'm going to.

@thomholwerda the only real gaming headache on Linux for me any more is kernel-level anti-cheat--which is not really an issue for me as I don't play any of those games.

I like using Linux because I can set it up more or less how I want, and then change it.

@praetor @thomholwerda Macbook Neo would be my default recommendation for a normie that does not game and just needs *laptop* for *laptop stuff.* A lot of the pain points are for nerds like me and not really relevant or even discoverable by a lot of users. At the price point, it's a no-brainer.

@thomholwerda I think with Linux we still get the option to fork if quality falls due to slop.

For me, personally, Linux still seems like the only sane option.

I trust Linus to not let slop into the kernel, and people will fork systemd I'm sure.

But I don't like it either.

Both the Linux kernel and systemd now contain slop or are open to adding slop.

@thomholwerda what do you mean, when you say now contains slop?Do you have a particular sloppy PR in mind?

What part of systemd is broken?

More importantly - does an objectionable origin of the code, regardless of quality, mean rejecting the entire OS?

This isn't an idle question. Horrific misogynists donated code that worked ok in Linux. Did you and millions of others stop using it because sex pests wrote it?

Is AI generated code worse than sexist weirdos writing source?
