*sigh* Dem presidential candidates talking about "culturally normal." 🤦🏿‍♂️

I don't want or need a president that silences the conversations that we need to protect people that aren't considered "culturally normal.🤡"

That's how fascists chip away at the base of good people.

I do want and need a president that will prioritize protecting the most vulnerable.

    That's how you protect people.

C'mon y'all. This is the oldest trick in the fascist book. You agree to their pressure to only include those who are "culturally normal🤡." But then the definition changes over time.

One day you find that you yourself are not "culturally normal.🤡"

It's 2026. How are we still falling for this?

@mekkaokereke read a really frustrating piece of political analysis the other day in the Atlantic. The author seemed to think the way forward is to compete on nastiness. Took note of which slices of the electorate the author deemed disposable: native Americans, trans people, and remote workers. OK. I assume that somewhat idiosyncratic list will grow.

@mekkaokereke I’ve seen a few white male popular ‘left’ political content creators who are pro-Newsom oblivious to understanding the racism & misogyny in the news, but doing apologia for it. Implying that those who did see it & were impacted were ‘overreacting or seeing things not there’.

They can’t be listening to diverse & intersectionally impacted voices & lack the care to get truly informed POVs. It’s just more white male supremacy, queer phobes, ableism, & capitalism.

@mekkaokereke Yes. Fascism can only be defeated through solidarity. I support activists, politicians, and media outlets who put this fact at the center of their practices.

@mekkaokereke uggggh. This cishet happily-married white woman thinks that "culturally normal" is a lie and a trap, Gavin Newsom can eat a dick, and if that man is the best Democrats can do, we're fucked.

The worst thing is, I agree with him that Dems need to focus on the economy, affordability, etc.!! Just not at the expense of protecting diversity and leveling the playing field. It doesn't have to be either-or, and he's setting up a false dichotomy.

I don't want or need any president. That is too much power for one person to have, and it causes great schisms in the populace.

@mekkaokereke "Normal" is itself not a healthy *construct*, much less a societal goal.--it used to bother me more that I'm not in it, but that's where the art comes from.

@mekkaokereke I mean, most Dems are still blaming Jill Stein because their candidate couldn't be bothered to mumble even a couple phrases about why climate change or genocide are unappealing, so this is par for the course .

All of Newsome's funny tweets that resonate so well with Gen-Z and Millenials? Are from her. And then he turns around and uses that goodwill to his Charlie Kirk and talk about "culturally normal?" He doesn't deserve her.

I’ve been reading some of the many, many #SCOTUS decisions, and the majority of them in the last half-century have amounted to “no, you fuckwads, you can’t enshrine into law legal harms to anyone, especially minorities”
I’ve been thinking about that a lot in the last months, and I have no idea what the future holds.

Look to the big corporate and billionaire donors for that answer
Until we get rid of "citizens united" and stupid voters, this is what we get
