A neighbor has a great ecosystem going in his front yard. It has a steep south slope with big fruit trees at the top. Digger bees have made their homes in the slope for years. They awaken in early spring, pollinate the trees, dig little holes, lay their eggs, and die. He keeps their slope unmowed while they do their thing, then gets lots of fruit later. The bees never bother anyone.

@StarlingW I love many things about this. That someone thought to plant those fruit trees there. That the owner purposefully left the slope unmown. That the bees get to do their thing. And there's local food produced. I bet it looks nice as well. What good stewardship of the land!
