@ascentale @bikenite #BikeNite A8: While cycling I saw a billboard advertisement for a new EV model emphasizing that it uses steer-by-wire technology. Didn't know that this is legal now. And for me, such a "feature" is rather scary and it would be a reason to _not_ buy that car. (Albeit modern cars have already way to many "features" which are a no-go for me anyways, so this just adds up.)

@bikenite A8-2. I also saw this on the way home this week. A parent, riding with kid on the back of an Xtracycle long-tail, with an electric conversion. The kid is carrying a cello(?) as a backpack.

@xtaran @ascentale @bikenite Steer-by-wire has already been used in motor vehicles for a very long time. It's nothing new.

@ascentale @bikenite A8: the shock for me this week was waking up to a car parked in my driveway. And not a car belonging to a neighbour. Almost blocking my driveway, and dumped partly on the lawn.

I suspect someone nearby who knows that I don't own a car.

I'm boggling at the rudeness and have no idea who owns it. But it's gone now and hopefully won't be back.

@moz @ascentale @bikenite I have had people do this to me, I think people visiting neighbors on my block. It's unbelieveably rude.

It also happens frequently at my mother's house in New Jersey, because she has a horseshoe driveway and a corner lot where the local schoolbus picks up and drops off. People brazenly park in her driveway to save their precious larvae made of sugar from being forced to ensure the weather while waiting for the school buss.

@ascentale @bikenite A8. I “finished” rebuilding my old bike, so a bike photo this week. I’m mostly happy with the results, I need a procure a new stem to bring the handlebars up and back a little. The shifting is not quite right, so I need to figure that out. And short pull bar shifters with long pull brakes, so kinda mushy braking, so I still need to figure that out. I knew this would be an issue, but the Microshift Sword brakes claim to have a 1.5 pull ratio, so I was hoping it would be better. Oh and the steering is a little twitchy, which I think will be better with the handle bars higher and closer. #BikeNite

@rand was that the stem from the stock riser / flat handlebar? You might get more pull with the levers slightly farther up the curve, if the extra reach from the drops is tolerable. There is also the Problem Solvers pulley thing that goes on the caliper and doubles the cable pull problemsolversbike.com/products/travel-agent

And our last question this week:

Q8. What did you see this week? Share a photo if you'd like. Cycling related or not is fine. Tell us about it!

@ascentale @bikenite A8. #bikenite Ended last week at our final youth xc #mtb race of the season in Tehachapi, CA. Held on a hill (foreground) owned by the cement plant in the distance. A local organization has done a great job building trails and maintaining the race course. I could watch the race and do some train watching at the same time. The second photo is from a bike practice this week. One of our varsity riders carried two bikes in her Mitsubishi 3000. One on the roof using one of those suction cup racks. Another inside the hatch. She is not a big person and it was a heavier bike so she had to climb in to get it out. Now in NJ visiting my elderly father. Side trip to Great Falls in Paterson, which somehow I had never visited when growing up in the state. They harnessed the falls for industrial power. Also never realized the area is known as Little Lima with a big Peruvian population. Walked to a yummy Peruvian lunch.

@ascentale @bikenite A8 the valleys and hills of Calderfornia seen from the Rochdale canal and cobbles betwixt Littleborough and Manchester…

Too much pressure in my tyres so I am feeling it today (left my rear tyre over-pumped overnight to seat the bead and forgot to let some air out before I set off).
