🇺🇦🇱🇻 Ukraine’s and Latvia’s luge relay team held up their helmets to honour the courage of Ukraine’s skeleton athlete Vladyslav Heraskevych. The International Olympic Committee made a shameful decision by disqualifying him after he planned to wear a helmet memorialising athletes killed by russia’s war.

The coach of the Latvian team has also filed an appeal against the IOC’s decision. Thank you for solidarity!

Remembrance is an act of dignity.

@EugeneMcParland The Olympic Games must remain apolitical. He was offered the chance to wear a black armband, but he refused to compromise, he played and he lost. There were so many other ways to pay tribute to them.

@draconis @EugeneMcParland They did offer those alternatives. Wearing a black armband was indeed offered. Plus, wearing the helmet would've set a precedent -- what would stop people in the future from wearing helmets for less worthy tributes?
