After weeks of silence Bungie has just announced that the next and long awaited #Destiny2 expansion will be delayed until June. Which wouldn't be such a big deal for any other game but the Destiny situation is different. It feels like Bungie has given up on Destiny. And with the continued decline in player numbers, there might be no one left to play in June. Such a shame.

There are more people playing Fallout: New Vegas than Destiny 2 on Steam.

@chris i am absolutely convinced #marathon is going to have a mid to bad reception at launch. they've been historically terrible at managing pvp, and that game feels like it's built for griefers. it's already a niche audience, and the fact that so much of their energy in #destiny2 went toward raids and dungeons (only 20% of the playerbase have EVER cleared one)...

@chris I guess Season 2 of the Fallout TV show and the reported player spike might have played a tiny part in affecting these numbers, but still, the Destiny situation is a real shame.

@lambtor True. PVP in Destiny has always been an afterthought - there haven't been any new maps in years, most people only ever played PVP modes like Iron Banner or Trials for the new weapons and fashion - it's always been a soul-crushing grind in my experience (I suck at PVP). Even if Marathon turns out ok, I just can't imagine there is a huge - financially sustainable - demand for another extraction shooter. All the Sony billions would have been better spent for Destiny 3.

@fringemagnet Good point, the Fallout games are probably getting more attention than usual. I'm tempted to replay them myself πŸ€”

@chris Yeah, I remember seeing a few articles like this: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/fallout-season-2-is-fuelling-another-steam-player-bump-as-folks-once-again-remember-they-like-fallout that's why it immediately popped to mind. And given how the new Season is very 'New Vegas' specific, it makes sense.
