YouTube is just as much of a toxic shitpump as Twitter/X and FaceBook, yet it seems to largely get a pass because it’s so deeply embedded into people’s online lives—and the billionaire oligarchs behind it keep a fairly low profile, unlike Musk and Zuck.
YouTube has done just as much (if not more) to destabilize democracy and radicalize folx as any of them!

We should also see this for what it is: an attack on our country by a hostile foreign power.
Russia used this exact same playbook to try to divide the population in Ukraine for years before they invaded.

@crispius It's all about carefully managing anger ignorance and outrage, knowing what hate and outrage will gain attention and further engagement.
Building "communities" where ignorance and prejudice is accepted and valued and criticism and honesty is quickly dismissed and denied.
Identifying who can speak the outrageous and most ignorant without being questioned.
Vilifying the cautious, the respectful, the expert.
Making all this appear normal and good ...
