The price increase from Hetzner made me rethink my personal infrastructure ..

- Migrated last service off an old auction server
- Moved the content of my StorageBox to my FreeBSD ZFS
- Migrated and cancelled a CPX42 VPS instance
- Migrated and cancelled a CAX21 VPS instance

One more CX23 is currently in the process of being virtualized on my Proxmox cluster.

The Mastodon instance burningboard.net is still running there as cloud instances. But the price of those resources will only increase by ~4€/Month and I don't want to migrate it again (Just moved on the current system in December 2025)

So in the end, the Hetzner bill will be considerably lower in the future, since I reduced my infrastructure footprint by a lot and consolidated things on my bare metal servers in a CoLo datacenter

Sometimes a trigger like that can break through the laziness and have a positive outcome 🥳

@Larvitz I think the hetzner price increases will back fire on them. I've read several posts of people adjusting and cancelling.

I've went from for VPSs to three. I hope to do some consolidation and reduce by one more.

@daj @hetzner @tux I have three owned physical servers in a Frankfurt CoLo datacenter (Plusline) running Proxmox VE. I started to centralize my servers there instead of different VPS instances. Worked very well.

@Larvitz @daj Yeah the consolidation math gets real interesting once you're already running bare metal. At some point you look at the VPS bill and realize you're paying rent on someone else's computer to run things your own hardware could handle with headroom to spare.

Yesterday I cleaned up my CX23 and moved all services to my own home server. Although the server consumes more power than the Hetzner instance, it offers significantly more performance. I might only let it run for a few hours at a time and automatically switch it off at night. I'm keeping the StorageBox for my backups, as the price remains unbeatable.

@malte i didn’t chose that. I share a 19“ rack there with two friends and we split the monthly cost. The price was reasonable enough for three nerds infrastructure.
