Since this week’s @ivory update adds Markdown support, it’s got me thinking how many Mastodon users can see it.

@heliomass Does that mean like italics and bold, or something else entirely?
@LillyHerself @ivory Basically. And hyperlinks too I would expect. I need to enable Markdown on my account and test it out.

Does your Mastodon client (app or website) render Markdown?
Also, an old post I wrote about Markdown.

@heliomass Was this post written using Markdown?
If yes, then no.

@EdwinG No, it was plain text. I’ve not enabled Markdown yet on my account.

@Chigaze @heliomass Lol I was able to answer thanks to your post

@Chigaze @heliomass Your server would need to support Markdown in order for the app client to be able to support it. The Mastodon glitch fork used by mstdn.ca does, but I don't think core Mastodon does yet, and I suspect that's what cosocial.ca is using.
You may also need to change an account setting so that your server interprets posts as Markdown by default (this depends on whether Ivory also sends up the flag that indicates the format).

@AmeliasBrain Thanks. That explains it. @heliomass

@heliomass I see.
It’s possible I don’t have any Markdown posts in my feed, so I don’t see them

@AmeliasBrain @Chigaze Interesting, I wasn’t aware of any of that. Thanks!

@heliomass @ivory heh, I'm so used to using asterisks for emphasis (in plain text), whenever I do so in Slack and it gets rendered as bold, I always think "no, not *that* kind of emphasis!"

@Centretowner @ivory Hehe, Slack throws me off too. And let us say nothing about Jira markup.
