At a table with some brilliant women last night. Started talking about Canadian politics and our social safety net. Full blown communism and socialism discussion... And no one else at that table had any idea that the NDP was having a leadership race, or that we actually had several real progressive options this time around.
The NDP as an institution is failing since it's not even reaching your target demographic of people who care.
I'd love to see the Avi/Tanille turnaround. I hope the institution can change with the image of the party.

The NDP can't rely on traditional media to get their message out; that media wants a 2 party system and thus only provides token coverage to anyone not Liberal or Conservative.
I hope that if Tanille or Avi win (my personal two top choices) that they don't focus on getting into Parliment and instead spend their time travelling around the country (bus tour?) making the party visible and getting their message out.

@RantingCanuck These are people who likely wouldn't follow traditional media anyway. This feels like a failure in the institution that is the party.
Getting into Parliament is the best way to get publicity. You're not relevant as a politician if you're not an MP.

@mayintoronto @RantingCanuck they're both on Mastodon, so that's a start! I think they both understand that they need to reach more people. We just need to hope that they succeed

@stephanie @RantingCanuck yeah! My complaint is about the party as a whole. It's like they're not even trying.

Complaints about the bias of the traditional media are valid, but they're not even competitive online (maybe Jagmeet Singh's ridiculous antics soured them on that?).
And federal and provincial bodies seem to be in separate silos.
