We can have automation with control, predictable outcomes, and transparency by the way. We've been doing it for decades before. What if we put money in that instead?

@Em0nM4stodon it will take too long, but I expect to see that pendulum swing will happen.
You are, correctly, listing all of the negatives of AI automation over good 'ol fashioned lines of code. And if you can write or verify this code, then that's a great option.
But for 95% of the population, that's not an option. They either have (1) no automation OR (2) sketchy, but functional automation.
Does it have a bunch of downsides? Sure!
But it's either sketchy automation with downsides or no automation. And no automation means you lose to the people who get the automation somewhat right.
At some point, the people with sketchy automation will want*good* automation. But I think we have to sail through this bad spot as best we can in the meanwhile

@Em0nM4stodon this is why I'm generally careful is in my statements against generative AI, because I'm actually supportive of it being used in ways that are very controlled, predictable & have full transparency. Like using it with cameras & similar censors to monitor oil & gas pipelines for leaks & then reporting possible leaks to humans for making repairs. Angling those cameras in network's to make them not really view nevermind analyze anything beyond pipeles & support structures for them being helpful.
Similarly AIs with machines as options for helping disabled people sharpen knives, among other simple tasks can definitely be done but simply aren't at this point.

@Em0nM4stodon Oooh, set up cronjobs to run prompts at regular intervals.
