The Soviet Union invaded Finland in November 1939.
During the war, Finnish soldiers used pine trees hung from cables to camouflage roads, creating an optical illusion that deceived Soviet observers.
Ultimately, Finland maintained its independence but had to make significant territorial concessions and pay reparations to the USSR.
