Let's see if I've got this right:

    0. In the beginning, the Strait of Hormuz was open and free to transit, and it was good.

    1. Fascist superpower launches unprovoked and unlawful act on Iran.

    2. Iran exerts control of the strait, blocking key shipping lanes.

    3. Global economy, hyperdependent on cheap and readily available fossil fuels, goes into panic mode.

    4. Fascist superpower realises it's made a boo-boo and badly wants the strait open again.

    5. Ceasefire declared and Iran reopens the strait, albeit under conditions.

    6. Fascist superpower doesn't like the conditions, so it blockades the strait.

    7. Global economy says WTAF dude?

I cannot for the life of me see how any of this plays out in favour of the fascist superpower.

@bencourtice Ah, that probably puts you in the WTAF dude category with most of the rest of us.

@phil_stevens The US tying their dollar to everyone's oil trading means they can print infinite money without shifting their exchange rates, leaving them arbitrarily wealthy without having to produce anything of value.

Meanwhile, everyone else in the world has to be at least somewhat useful to someone.

So Iran trading oil in yuan is a huge no-no for the US. Long term, they can't survive without the petrodollar, so letting this continue is just something they can't do.

You can see this in the lead up to a lot of recent wars, and coups, national leaders announce trading oil in something other than US dollars, and then they're gone.

            8. People around the world who have been trying to get the global economy to no longer be hyperdependent on cheap and readily available fossil fuels have banged their keyboards on their tables in such frustration that they have neither a keyboard nor a table anymore

@phil_stevens America is now a Mel Brooks movie.

“Open the Strait of Hormuz or I’m closing the Strait of Hormuz”
