@AlisonCreekside I wish the US would grant these poisonous people refugee status.

@cass_m @AlisonCreekside indeed What is it about Alberta that they want to keep to themselves and whisk away somewhere else. It’s not THEIR oil. They can get more oil in North Dakota or Alaska or Texas or Dubai if that’s what they want. Why are they hell bent in thinking that Alberta is something that can just be taken out of Canada and appended to the US without them losing things they love?
And I’m not talking about these deceitful snakes running the program. I’m talking about the people they think will support them.

@chriscorrigan apparently grievance politics have been a thing since Alberta was granted provincial status. It has historically swung right. There was a chance to reset after Klein zeroed the debt but they just kept digging holes in the names of low taxes

️@cass_m for sure. I’m honestly wondering right now what ordinary people think they will have if they joined the US that will better than what they have now beyond “no MorE LiBErAls”.
They will live in towns in which many people including friends and family had left to go elsewhere in Canada. Their government will be a territory not a state and the US federal government would simply give away the resources leases to companies with no royalties.
They will lose public health care and a decent k-12 education system. They will see many economic immigrants arrive in the territory to work the resources at lower wages than they have now.
It is so obvious that a move like this only benefits very big offshore resource companies and fatally slices the heart out of Canada.
So I’m honestly interested in why people feel this is a great idea.
Grievance will go with them but then they will be completely powerless. It’s foolish.

@chriscorrigan @cass_m Alberta has the same big mads energy you had when you were 7 or maybe 10 years old and considering "running away from home". You hadn't really put much thought into where you were going to sleep after the first night or who was going to pay for your guitar lessons now.

.@AlisonCreekside Yeah...but I'm trying to give people at least a bit of credit for being adults and having learned a little bit in life.

@chriscorrigan Remember my neighbours from Alberta with the 4' x 8' Max Bernier election sign?
They were hardworking outgoing generous adults and really great neighbours and their heads were full of junk. -
