The fediverse should not be ripping off public broadcasters of their journalism. This is an incredibly bad look and @crispius needs to do better.

A valid point. And I’ve removed the offending post and am willing to post from the source in future.But I do see CBC posting on YouTube as them supporting an oligarch-owned platform.

@crispius You're moving goalposts. You cannot, and should not, post content you do not own on the fediverse.
I don't care about the motivation; you do not own that content. Share it where it is and allow fedicitizens the right to either consume it or not. You do not have the right to post content that you do not own. Period.

Honest to goodness good-faith question:Would you consider political posts by Canadian politicians in the same vein?
For example, I shared a post on my PeerTube by MP Heather McPherson taking about the state of Alberta’s Healthcare. I don’t recall the original source but it might have been TikTok or Instagram.
I know many Fedi users preemptively block content on those platforms.
Would sharing that be considered fair-use or not?
(I have a lot of connections to your instance, and don’t want to sever those links by contravening your instance’s moderation policies, I want to work within the rules)

So no. We want to invite people to participate here, and ripping off their content is not it.
Case in point: Avi Lewis is now on the fediverse. That wasn't done by ripping off his content.
Legally, it depends on what license the content was shared under, but in this case, I feel there's a moral responsibility over what is legal.

@fsinn Trump doesn't want Americans rushing over the bridge to claim refugee status in Canada. They wouldn't get it but could stay here till Trump is dead, imprisoned or just plain powerless.
