      @ChrisMayLA6 @ReggieHere There is this weird idea that the UK doesn’t have an industrial policy, it does and has had one for decades. It’s “Do whatever finance wants and forget about the rest of the country.”

              Yes, certainly if we exclude Pinochet's more brutal adoption of the same principles.

              There are some unpleasant parallels with the merchant companies of the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries too for an indication of where we're heading.

                Reminds me of the comment that the constant breathless reporting of various indicators such as stock market levels, GDP, etc. amounts to "economic pornography."
