@ai6yr The biggest pain was forking it into the wheelbarrow. We have nearly 4 acres and so there was a lot of rolling the wheelbarrow down to the various beds, but that wasn't so much the issue as getting it into the wheelbarrow in the first place. At first easier as it was high up and I could just drag it in batches and it would tip in - but at a certain point it became back breaking!!! I feel for you. Been there. Never doing that again. ๐Ÿ™‚

@nomdeb I've moved 5 loads of mulch previous to this, all were smaller than this one. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

This doesn't have to move very far though, really -- just need to spread it out against the wall it is resting against, for about 20 feet in either direction.

FWIW, I use the large (25gal?) plastic planters when dealing with mulch or compost. I can preload one with up to 13 contractor trash bags. Then I just scoop the mulch into the planter/bag with my hands. And pull each bag out when full. It's a LOT faster than shoveling. And each bag is a manageable weight to easily move to it's temporary or final location.

Bonus Points: The partially filled bags are much easier to stuff into my little car for transport. I can fit 2 cubic yards in there with some effort. LOL.

I've pulled up to Griffith Park and grabbed a couple yards of mulch in under 30 minutes. People filling pickup trucks with shovels will just stop and gape for a while at how quickly I've gotten 2x as much as they did.

Ah. finally found and uploaded a time lapse of a compost run using this technique. The plastic planter is actually a 10 gallon. A new record of 45 bags were loaded on this run. 450gal is 2.6 cubic yards.

I wonder if burlap coffee sacks would work? That way if we donโ€™t get so some, they just compost wherever we put them.

@ai6yr Any update on the mulch pile? Some of us might just be jealous of shovel usage that doesn't involve snow.
