Meanwhile Blackpool has made it to the last nine in a bid to become UK City of Culture 2029.

Winning would be an opportunity for Blackpool to both galvanise its local cultural sector (and population) but also be a major turnaround in its profile in British political society.

Whether it will win is another issue; but getting this far is great news for the often criticised (large) town.

@ChrisMayLA6 Will be interesting to see what happens. I've always had mixed views on the place since I was a kid.The brash seaside town with a resident population that'd make Hyacinth Bucket seem restrained. Most of the hinterland population would have made the likes of Reform sound "Woke". I doubt much has changed. Also, our last visit was so disappointing that MrsB will never go back. It needs something more than LED lights to bring it forward to the Late 20th C (21st may be asking too much).
