Orwell committed a fatal flaw, like Huxley's: by building worlds around their dystopic predictions, in the hopes of making them a spook to scare people into preventing their existence, they instead built a framework for those willing to develop those worlds into existence. -

@PerryM @ShITVoid It wasn't really a crystal ball. He was just extrapolating from themes he was already witnessing. He was writing at a time when fascism was relatively new and so was industrialization. It was rather obvious what would happen and a LOT of people wrote pretty good guesses.
It's a good book though. It'll get you thinking and more than a little scared.
